Fun with gels- Week 2, Day 2

gel shot, Headshot, photography, Portrait, portraiture, self portrait, strobe photography, studio

It’s Wednesday and as we continue with our project, I wanted to give you another shot that I’m proud and thought would make you glance for a little while longer at the depth of the expression. I wonder how this and the other gel shots have been affecting their viewers.

Drop me a comment in the section below. I’d love what people are thinking.

Fun with gels- Week 2, Day 1

gel shot, Headshot, photography, Portrait, portraiture, self portrait, strobe photography, studio

We’re back and continuing the series we started last week. I realized something after I posted the images last week. I have to edit my headshots with a higher degree of scrutiny if I want them to look as polished as my full lenght portraits.

I started out doing headshots and left them behind for awhile. I know the level to which I used to edit my older shots and I told myself it was no longer necessary. For full-length shots, that’s absolutely true.

For these shots I’m going to show you this week, there has been quite a lot of time put into editing. More so than even last week’s shots.

Anyway… enjoy! πŸ™‚

A photo worthy of a Friday post!

Glamour, natural light, photography, Portrait, portraiture

C’mon. Look at the pose and tell me this isn’t a fun image to look at. I mean, that’s what we’re after, right? Creating images that intrigue people or provoke thoughts or, help tell someone’s story.

This pose is Melissa through and through. There’s no better shot to help usher you into a fun-filled, relaxing weekend. That’s a wrap for this week but, feel free to peruse my site and check out my other posts while you’re here.

Go create something! Or patronize someone else who does 😊

Windswept Wednesday? 😜

Glamour, natural light, photography, Portrait, portraiture

I love capturing windswept hair in my shots. I never plan for it but I love when it happens! On another note- Check out this pose and tell me it doesn’t ooze confidence! This woman’s swag is just off the charts.. She does her own styling and makeup and always shows up looking trendy and cute as hell. Then I tell her it’s go time and she’s on like a light bulb until I say “that’s a wrap”.

We click when we work together and that’s an awesome feeling to experience. Get out there and find the people who make you want to keep creating and push on through the rest of the week!

Oh. Windswept Wednesday could DEFINITELY be a thing πŸ˜„πŸ‘ŒπŸΎ

Tuesday Evening- Hi folks :-)

Glamour, natural light, photography, Portrait, portraiture

As the title mentions, it’s Tuesday evening. I hope everyone’s week is going well so far.

I have so much fun when I work with this model. We laugh and joke the whole time, yet we never stop working until we’re about to part ways for the day. She shows up very prepared and means business once I turn my camera on. I’ve done a bunch of work with her in the past and hopefully the future will bring us together soon to create more magic!

Here’s to building a network of creatives!

Another Friday! These are always welcome here! :-)

It’s amazing what golden-hour light can do to a subject! It’s fleeting. It can be overpowering. It can be intimidating to work with. With all the things that can go wrong with this very limited window of amazing light, so many things can go unpredictably right. I did not imagine any of these shots would come out this way. I had already successfully shot golden hour photos in the past. With those photos, I had a kind of vision in mind and when we attempted it, the results were mostly what we’d thought they would be.

In this instance however, I had no idea how the shots would come out and I really disliked the idea of shooting in such an overpowering light scenario this day. Fortunately, we did the shoot anyway. We ended up coming away with something magical!Β  I also learned something about different ways to light people.

I say all this to say that if you have room for it, allow your creativity to run rampant once in awhile. Have fun creating and collaborating. You’ll surprise yourself sometimes. Sometimes things won’t go your way and that’ll be disappointing but, other times you get shots that feel like once-in-a-lifetime shots. It is incredibly difficult to replicate golden-hour shots because the sun needs to be at a position that it’s in only one time per year and if you have any precipitation that day or cloud cover…..well, you don’t get your shots.

I may go more into that but, that will definitely be another post at another time in the future. Anyway.. go enjoy your well-deserved weekend off if you happen to be off on the weekends!!

Wednesday. Time to think on it, maybe.

Halfway through the work week. It may be time to just pause and contemplate for a second or maybe take a breather. A lot of time we forget to stop and remember the good things we have going on for us. It’s times like this that I’m grateful for having photography as a creative outlet. It helps me focus and realign my energy in ways that are useful to me. It also allow me to put energy into something outside of myself and get that much needed separation from other things I may have going on my life.

What kinds of creative outlets do my followers and visitors have? I’d like to hear about it in the comments πŸ™‚
